Outreach Research Division (ORD), on behalf of Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), organized the 14th National Agricultural Technical Working Group (NATWG) meeting on 9th July 2017 at National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI), Khumaltar, Lalitpur. The meeting was inaugurated by Mr. Ishwor Prasad Rijal Chief Guest, and officiating secretary of MoAD. The program was chaired by Dr. Y.R. Pandey, Executive Director of NARC. Other guests at the meeting were Mr. Surya Prasad Poudel, DDG, Department of Agriculture, Dr. Bijay Chandra Jha, DDG, Department of Livestock Services, Dr. Matina Baidhya Joshi, DDG, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control etc. More than 80 agricultural experts and stakeholders representing MoAD, DoA, DLS, NARC and private sector actively participated in the meeting. Moreover, farmers’ representatives from outreach research sites of Outreach Research Division at Tarakeshwor Municipality, Kathmandu, Suryagadi Rural Municipality, Nuwakot and Mandan-Deupur Municipality, Kavrepalanchowk also participated in the meeting.
Dr. Aananda Kumar Gautam, Director, Planning and Coordination (NARC) welcomed all the participants. During his speech, he highlighted the objectives of the meeting as: transfer of recent generated technologies to the users. This forum also important to exchange knowledge sharing the ideas, review of adopted technologies and strengthening the collaboration among the stakeholders.
In the technical session of the meeting, a total of four technical papers were presented. Dr. Ram Chandra Adhikari, Chief of ORD, NARC presented a paper on “Recently Generated Technologies by NARC and Researchable Issues.” He presented the latest technologies developed by NARC on food crops, vegetables, fruits, oilseeds, legumes, livestock & fisheries along with the researchable issues and problems raised during different RATWG meetings conducted respective regional stations. Mr. Surya Prasad Poudel, DDG, DoA presented on “Status of Crop, Horticultural and Fisheries Technology Dissemination and Adoption in Nepal.” Similarly, Dr. Bijay Chandra Jha, DDG, DLS presented on “Status of Livestock Technology Dissemination and Adoption in Nepal.” Likewise, Dr. Matina Baidhya Joshi, DDG, DFTQC also presented her paper on “Status of Food Technology and Quality Control Situation in Nepal.”
After completion of all the presentations, short discussion was done on each of them followed by group discussion. “Crop and Horticulture” and “Livestock, Fisheries and Cross-cutting” groups were formed for prioritized the researchable issues.
Concluding session was chaired by Dr. RC Adhikari. Both groups presented their recommendation and discussion also made after presentation. Farmer representative Mr. Prahlad Poudel, expressed his views about the problems faced by the farmers and he also acknowledge NARC for contributing on-farm research. Dr. I.P Gautam, Chief of HRD expressed vote of thanks to all the participants.
